About the project

Padel Stars’ new four-court padel venue in Chigwell sits at Old Loughtonians Hockey Club’s Roding Sports Centre. Lofthouse Padel Court Specialists carried out all of the groundworks for the build, which was complete by early August 2026, ahead of the venue’s official opening. The courts are covered by a canopy, so they can be played all year round.

Chigwell is not our first project with Padel Stars. We have also delivered Golfplex in Bracknell, a three-indoor, one-outdoor padel complex on a steeply sloping site; temporary courts under canopies at Batchwood Golf & Sports Centre in St Albans; and two padel courts and a pickleball court at Ferndown Forest Golf Club in Bournemouth.

Our part: the groundworks

Groundworks are everything a padel court stands on: preparing the site, forming the base the courts and their glass and steel structure are fixed to, and dealing with surface water. They are the part of a build you cannot see once the courts are in, and they decide how level the courts play and how well they last.

At Chigwell the concrete base was in place before the canopy frame went up over it, as the photos below show. Our guide to padel court groundworks and foundations explains what goes into the work.
